Through a combination of purchases and long-term leases, Raptor Ag acquired approximately 1400 tillable, irrigated acres in 2017 in Oregon's Willamette Valley for the purpose of hazelnut production. Raptor Ag planted 1000 of those acres in winter of 2017-18, the largest hazelnut plantings by a single farm in the industry's North American history. The remaining acres were planted winter 2018-19. Raptor Ag quickly grew from that original position to approximately 3000 acres of hazelnuts orchards, and company continues to grow its hazelnut operation.
In 2021, Raptor Ag acquired 1300 tillable acres in Love County, Okla., and planted 1040 of those acres winter 2021-22. Similar to what Raptor Ag accomplished in Oregon in 2017-18, the establishment of more than 1000 acres of high-density pecan orchards in one season was the largest plantings by a single farm in the industry's history. Raptor Ag has continued to grow its pecan business, with approximately 1700 acres developed and another 320 acres expected to be developed in early 2024. In summer 2023, Raptor formed joint ventures in Chile and Italy - Raptor Ag Chile and Wollstone Raptor Ag - to pursue expansion into those regions, primarily for hazelnut productions. The Chilean JV partner already has 1500 acres of hazelnuts under management, providing an immediate footprint and base of operations for Raptor Ag Chile. In Italy, Wollstone Raptor Ag has been granted a long-term production contract from Ferrero to develop up to 3700 acres of hazelnuts. |
